About Shoko



Shoko is an executive and leadership coach and co-founder of SHIFT Women's Leadership Training Program and known as a change agent. She paved the way as the first American Express Japan woman to take overseas leadership in Hong Kong, London and NY.


She is focusing on advancing minority female professionals through coaching discipline, combined with her 20-years experience leading and navigating the teams in complex organizations in multi-cultural environment, such as American Express and Aetna.


Shoko has an MBA from the Stern School of Business at New York University. She is a holder of PCC International Coaching Federation (ICF) credential and Practitioner and Team Coaching Foundation level accredited by European Mentoring and Coaching Counsel(EMCC), and an ACE certified coach trained by David Peterson and David Goldsmith, and certified Global Team Coach trained by Peter Hawkins and David Clutterbuck.


She has certifications on Thomas International DISC assessment, Judgement Index assessment, Hogan assessment, Facilitator of Creative Problem Solving, Cornell University's Diversity and Inclusion program, and Korn Ferry's Leadership Architect Competency Framework and 360 Feedback assessment.

I'm from a small town near Mt. Fuji, Japan, where the English language is a foreign melody and the idea of living abroad is a seldom chosen path. My family's unwavering support allowed me to journey into the unknown and embrace the world beyond.

I believe every experience teaches us something valuable. Studying in Omaha, NE, opened my mind to new possibilities and positivity. My childhood music training instilled in me the values of dedication, practice, and heartfelt commitment. Achieving leadership roles overseas as the first Japanese woman allowed me to confront stereotypes and Imposter Syndrome. And being laid off after 20 successful years at American Express made resilience and self-trust my allies.

Now, I wish to share my insights and experiences with Humble Ambitious Women, like you, facing challenges or chasing "impossible dreams."

Our logo, the dragonfly, or "Kachi-mushi" in Japanese, holds profound significance. In Japan, it is revered as the “Victory Insect,” symbolizing relentless progress and valor, as it soars forward, never backward.
